65% Rise in Iran-Ireland Trade (Financial Tribune – 7 May 2017)
Trade between Iran and Ireland saw a 65% rise in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2017) to reach €80 million compared to the previous year. According to Iran’s Ambassador to Dublin Javad Kachooeian, Ireland’s exports to Iran include medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, food, raw materials of carbonated drinks, chemicals and industrial machinery. The envoy announced that top Irish government officials, including Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor, are going to visit Iran at the invitation of Iran’s Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh in the not-too-distant future, IRNA reported.
Iranian Bank Holds ICA Training (Financial Tribune – 7 May 2017)
Saman Bank has become the first Iranian lender to receive training in Compliance and Financial Crime Prevention based on the International Compliance Association standards.
This is the first time Iranian students have been able to undergo ICA training in Iran and marks a shift in the standard of professional compliance qualifications available to Iran’s banking employees.
Saman Bank is leading the way for Iranian banks to comply with international banking standards.
The course was taught by Iran-registered banking compliance experts OSACO Financial this week in Tehran.
OSACO instructors Roland Guennou and Leila Kashtiban led two 2-day workshops at the Saman Academy for 20 students as part of their study for globally-recognized qualifications from ICA.
According to a press release by OSACO, delegates were drawn from Saman Bank’s Risk & Compliance, Client Relationships and International Affairs Departments.

Velayati says Iran-Germany ties are growing (Tehran Times – 7 May 2017)
Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior foreign policy advisor to the Leader, said on Saturday that ties between Iran and Germany are growing well and meetings between the two countries’ officials prove it.
“Relations between Iran and Germany have a long history and we attach great importance to ties between the two countries,” he said during a meeting with Markus Ederer, state secretary at the German Federal Foreign Office.
Velayati also described the status of Germany in the European Union as unique.
Elsewhere, he said that some countries seek to further complicate crises in the Middle East region.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran can play an important role in line with international peace and stability” and prevent a “weakening and disintegration of regional countries,” the former foreign minister stated in an open reference to the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Anzali FTZ to Host Gold, Jewelry Expo (Financial Tribune – 7 May 2017)
Anzali International Permanent Fairground will host the first international exhibition of gold, jewelry, silver, watch, gemstones and related industries from May 16 to 19. All gold transactions at the exhibition, including retail and wholesale transactions, will be exempt from the 9% value-added tax, the Persian daily Sharq reported. According to the exhibition’s public relations, more than 60 domestic companies and five foreign firms are expected to display their latest products and machinery during the four-day event.
Iran should rely on youth talents not oil: Jahangiri (Tehran times – 7 May 2017)
Presidential candidate Es’haq Jahangiri has said that Iran should rely more on the talents of the young generation rather than on oil.
One of the areas that the country can use the talents of the youth is to develop the science-based sector, he said in a radio program on Saturday.
“The circle of managers should evolve toward the young ones,” he stressed, adding that the young population is a strong point for Iran.
