Iran: US$154 billion-worth of business in the construction sector

growth-plan-construction-business-585x390

The construction market in Iran reached a volume of more than US$154 billion in 2016, thanks to a real housing boom and major national projects related to railways, highways and airports. 70% of the more than 15 million Iranian plan to become owners. A total of 13.5 million dwellings or 750,000 dwellings per year. Iran has been awarded the Samoter International Award for the considerable boost it gives to the development of the construction sector. In addition to major national projects such as the extension of railway and motorway networks, the modernization of Qeshm and Kish airports, the government plans in the coming years to invest significantly in the renovation of the private housing stock. It is estimated that more than 14,000 square meters of buildings must be upgraded as 50 percent of households are over 30 years old and are therefore highly exposed to seismic risk. There is therefore a strong demand for excavating machines, cranes, prefabrication and anti-seismic solutions.
